September 1, 2011 0 0 107.10.113.59 Leo Domek Estherville, Iowa ldomek@yourstarnet.net I was stationed at Charlie Battery from May 1962 to October 1963. I was supply clerk and truck driver with Sgt.Richardson and Sgt. Parker motor pool Sgt. Lived in Brackenheim with my wife. Have a lot of fond memories of my days in Germany. Buddies were Joe Beeler from Kentucy, Mark Kimball from Texas and Ernie Medina from Denver. Want to receive more info about the get together in Branson in 2012. Does anyone know the where about of Sam Stewart? August 31, 2011 0 0 208.126.154.116 Ross E. Conran Coopersville, Michigan rossconran@yahoo.com I reported to Charlie Battery on December 22, 1962. I spent the first night in Kornwestheim, the second in the BOQ room of the barracks and got into Heilbronn on the 23rd. I was the Fire Control Platoon Leader for more than a year and eventually became the Executive Officer. I fired out at McGregor twice with near 100% scores each time. I had an exceptional crew. Msgt Boles, CW4 Lankford, SP6 Quagliato, Sp Jose Warden, and others whose names have temporarily left my brain. Captain Marvin Bihn was the CO and Lt. Clarel Bowman Mapes was the XO when I arrived. Ah, memories. July 21, 2011 0 0 72.35.37.59 Hans J. Roeper California, born in Germany hjrret@yahoo.com Hello Dean,
I just loved your great website. It is one of the finest I have ever seen, and once I started reading it, I did not stop until I reached the end. The enclosed pictures are just beautiful, and brought back a lot of memories. As a child I used to spend a lot of time hanging around Gerszewski Barracks, and maybe one of the GIs stationed there in the late 50s, early 60s remembers me. I took a couple of pictures from the Nike site there, and will send them to you. Keep up the good work, and keep in touch.

worked on the radar simulator and helped get delta ready for firing honor batery, Then I was transfered to bravo btry to replace an out going mech,(24Q). Where we fired honor battery also. I got to know charlie btry because I was ordered up there to help them train for there live fire mission. Later I was assigned for a week to c-btry to train them on Red eye training. It seemed like charlie was more primative than the other sites but I had fun living in the IFC area. I remember going out to get something to eat with some of the charlie 24Q's when some gang robbed a bank in one of the towns there and we got stuck in road blocks for hours. I served from 1980 to 1982 and then got shipped to Ft. Gordon for some unknown reason. I showed up and they had no idea what to do with me so they stuck me in personell pulling files for civillian clerks, what a let down. I eventuly reenlisted for a 26Y job and contiuned on. :!cool: :!cool: December 3, 2010 0 0 99.191.111.233 Fred Olney Y. Van Zandt Gardendale, AL 35071 foyvz@bellsouth.net I really appreciate the work done by the creator of this web site and by Jim Fitzpatrick who called me yesterday after all these years! I started with the old battery in Karlsruhe, then moved on to C Battery in the wine country. It has been more than 50 years since I was discharged. Wow! November 10, 2010 0 0 99.18.67.9 Bob Collis Bella Vista, Arkansas ncolllis@cox.net I was in the 195th Ordnance Detachment, 3rd Battalion, 71st Artillery from 2/61-8/62 stationed in Kneilingen (Karlsruhe), Germany, providing Ordnance services to the four Nike sites of 3/71. I was so glad to have discovered this very well done site..... it's excellent. I had the privilege of speaking to Dean at length this evening. We discussed our recollections of the Germany we experienced in our youth, scarcely 15 years after the conclusion of WW II. Amazing experiences and responsibilities for youthful American G.I.'s. I have recollection of a couple of the names on the "Charlie" manning roster that Dean prepared. The person I have the greatest recall of was CWO Blanchette (sp?). We (Ordnance) seemed to have more interaction with him than others at 'C" Battery. Oh, yes, I also recall your Mess Sergeant Otto who always did a great job of feeding the visitors to "C" Battery, too.

Dean, thanks for all the hard work you've done in developing this site. Great photos of the towns and very interesting "Google Earth" photos that add a unique perspective to times gone by. It's certainly put the bar at a very high level. And, I appreciate your invitation to an "interloper from Ordnance" to sign in.

Thanks for calling this evening. I certainly enjoyed the conversation.

I was at Kleingartich from Oct. '60 till june '63. Originally in motor pool, then taking care of generators, supplying fuel and operating the bulldozer. I worked with Wayne Berlinski, he left and I took over. (He passe away this summer) I'm going to try and be at the reunion this year. I just got the dates today. Your shot of us in formation in front of the barracks reminded me of something rotten I did. We were having a rifle inspection there once. As I recall, the deal was if the rifle could hit the ground before the inspector could grab it, a pass would be rewarded. It never happened of which I was aware. I figured no one could react that fast. So I decided to pull a mean trick. A young Lieutenant [wish I could remember his name so I could apologize] was doing the inspecting. When it came my turn I tensed every muscle I had & gripped the M-1 hard. When the Lieutenant’s hand hit the M-1, the gun didn’t budge & the Lieutenant’s pain became obvious. His only comment was, “Crowl, did you have to do that?” August 16, 2010 0 0 75.196.89.149 Thomas M. All kinds of "moves" were really just re-naming units.

OCILLA, GEORGIA BILLGRIFF@WINDSTREAM.NET DEAN,

THANKS FOR THIS WEB SITE.WE HAVE A LOT OF PICTURES AND HISTORY OF THE 3RD BN 71ST ADA,AND TO HAVE AN ACCOUNT OF CHARLIE BATTERY FOR THE PERIOD 1959-1961 IS ESPECIALLY EXCITING. IT REQUIRED A LOT OF WORK AND COMPUTER SKILLS ON YOUR PART TO PUT ALL THIS TOGETHER. IT'S AMAZING THAT AFTER FIFTY YEARS YOU HAVE BROUGHT THIS INTERESTING SITE TO THE INTERNET AND MADE IT AVAILABLE TO THE GUYS WHO SERVED DURING THAT TIME.

FIFTY YEARS TAKES US BACK TO THE TIME WHEN WE WERE YOUNG WITH HIGH ENERGY AND SOMETIMES DO SOMETHING A LITTLE CRAZY.

I REMEMBER A FUNNY THING THAT HAPPENED TO CHARLIE BURGESS AND GERALD TYNE. THEY WENT TOGETHER AND BOUGHT AN OLD GERMAN CAR. ONE DAY THEY WITH TO GERMAN GUYS WERE DRIVING THROUGH THE COUNTRY AND WERE DRIVING TO FAST FOR ROAD CONDITIONS RAN UP ON A CURVE AND COULDN'T MAKE THE TURN,RAN OFF THE ROAD HIT AN APPLE TREE AND KNOCKED THE APPLES OUT OF THE TREE. THE OLD GERMAN FARMER SUED BURGESS FOR THAT CROP OF APPLES.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE '08 REUNION IN BRANSON SWAPPING STORIES. SOME OF THE GUYS TOLD SOME TALL ONES.

I WILL VISIT YOUR SITE OFTEN HOPING TO FIND A NOTE FROM SOME OF THE GUYS.

BEST WISHES BILL GRIFFIN July 22, 2010 0 0 98.18.87.207 Jim Fitzpatrick Pittston Pa jimbo199@verizon.net Thank you Dean for this great site this all started 50 rears ago and here we are comming together again.
