There was an amazing variety of crops grown on the mountain top. Summer days on the mountain was almost dream like. It was warm and watching the crops grow and develope to harvest really put one in touch with the seasonal rhythms and processes.

For someone who grew up in suburbia it was, even at my young age, a powerful experience.

Gasthaus “In the woods” = Name is “Neuer Berg” (=“New Mountain” in this case better “New Hill”). - It is still very much liked and steadily frequented because of its view down to the valley - and also well known for reasonable prices by good qualities ....

This is a wonderful place to go on a warm Sunday afternoon. I think that it was not only local folks who came here, but also folks who wanted a nice day away from the city, like Heilbronn.

What was great was that all we had to do was take a leisurely stroll from the barracks. It was a beautiful day in our neighborhood.

This is Gasthaus In The Woods from another point of view, but still just as charming and enjoyable. I would love to have one of those bottles of bier right now mit ein schinkenwurst und brot, ummmmm... Wouldn't you...?

Good Comrades enjoying a warm Sunday afternoon at the Gasthaus in the Woods, which was, yes you guessed it, in the woods behind the launching area.

So, going around the table from left to right are: Horace Reed, Ron Smith, Bob Norkol, Bill Zeien, Joe Mehorczyk, Bill Mansell, Dean Jonasen, and Marion Naeger, and of course Jim Fitzpatrick is behind the camera. Our website would be a lot leaner without his great camera work.

And when the local folks, who had had their fill of food and drink and wanted to exercise, would come over to the launching area and walk around to sight see the goings on, which was usually not much of anything unless there was an alert. And to my recollection, there was never an alert on Sundays, they were usually late on a Friday or Saturday night.

Hey, did anyone bring their camera...?

Maybe George, who was in the IFC, is looking for the Gasthaus In The Woods.

Acutally I am not sure where this photo was taken. Does anyone recognize this road...?
