Served at C 3/71 ADA in Hardheim, GE July 1982 til the Btry inactivated Aug 1983. Arrived Rhein-Main AB fresh from MP OSUT at Ft. McClellan, AL, processed thru 21st Repl. and got a long bus ride to Kornwestheim for inprocessing at the 3/71 ADA Bn HQs - the "Dragon Battalion."

While at the HQs I met my best friend for the next 14 months, SPC Eddie Washington. We inprocessed and were assigned to C Btry and after a couple days they put us in a van for another long ride to Hardheim. When we stopped at the company/barracks we thought, because it was such a small place, we were stopping to fuel up. We were a little surprised when the driver got out and told us to unload our bags.

It was an inauspicious start, but I served with some great people who were a blast to work with (Scott Lisk, Wilbur Combs, Chuck Letourneau, Eddie Smith, Paul Martin, Steve Teeter, and so many more whose names I no longer recall) and a few I'd rather forget. Although I was glad when the site inactivated and ended the 24 hour day on day off guard schedule, it was hard to see friends leave.

I stayed as the Tac Site security force and became part of 6/52 ADA (Hawk) for the next 3+ years before leaving in December 1986. During my time there I met and married my wife and had my first son. It truly was the best of times and I savor the memories. If you served at the same time and my name rings a bell I'd love to hear from you and reminisce. Drop me a line at johnford1963@gmail.com.

I would of stayed if they would of let me be the first in-flight missle repairman. God Bless all would served, who are still serving and all who will serve. My son tells me that there have been a lot of changes since the first emails (hammer and chisels), but then again it was fun
training those big birds to fly.

A salute to all veterans everywhere. I served in HHC #/71 in 77' and 78'. I was a generator mech. and we would travel to all 4 batterys and service the generators. I knew people in each battery but can't seem to come up with names at the moment. This site is good stuff. My hat is off to the admins. of this site. Thank You.

Dean.... your continuing efforts to document the history and actions of Charlie Battery and the sister sites of the 3rd Missile Battalion, 71st Artillery are, indeed, remarkable. I first signed in back in 2010. Your additions, modifications, upgrades and inclusions since then must be a labor of great love. Thanks for all your good work.... and, the memories. I've really enjoyed the ride through the history of our youth!

I was in Kleingartach from around November 1963 to about sometime in 1965. I was reassigned to the 2nd of the 56th in Pirmasens until rotation to CONUS. People that I remember the names of are Schray, Chambers, Logan, Hughes (both), Shackleford, Agee, Rodriguez, Karp, Cosmo Parrazzo, and more. I've been trying to find photos of some of the "great" people that were stationed with me. Please give me time for I have to locate them, packed away in boxes. I would love share those memories with you and your family so you can see the good times that we had and how your loved ones appeared as young men.
