I need your support and help!
In the history of Kleingartach there is a problematic topic: The closing of the site in 1969.
Known date is the official closing in July 1969; but a soldier tells me that he came in April 1969 to C 3/71 Hardheim, and nobody there knows something about Kleingartach.
I guess that Kleingartach was really closed in March/April 1969, together with 1/67 sites.
Two notices: Knows anybody the effective deactivation date or the time frame; and the reason(s) why, and especially Kleingartach, was closed?
Who can provide records or further helpful informations, references, tips and so on regarding my first notice?

Thank you very much for your effort!

Thomas Schulz

I was assigned to Charlie Battery, 1/67 in late 1966 as the XO under Captain Blackwell. Great unit (best in 32nd AADCOM in 1967). So many memories, so little time. Lt. Tom Gaffey and I lived in an apartment above the Volksbank in Hardheim for a year (got evicted), and then move dto the Landgasthof zum Ross in Schweinberg where we were "adopted" by the Kuenzig family (poppa loved Jack Daniels Black from the PX in Wertheim). I have fond memories of Charlie, but also fond memories of the "Tanzcafe Romantica" in Walduern, and their "famous" band - The Jetwalkers!. How we escaped non-judicial punishment, I'll never know!
I would love to hear from the men who were there at the time! I already fond Joe Ardito on this site.

I was stationed at Hardheim Kasserne from August 1963 to early April 1965. I was a 179.10 mos radar opeerator working the IFC. I had fond memories of my time there. I was transferred in after out missile site was taken over by the National Guard. I worked all the positions in the trailer. I remember we had a lot of fun downstairs in the beer hall below the barracks.
Or we spent time in town at the gasthauses. At the time it was 4 Marks to the dollar so we could get by cheaply.Just seeing if there was anyone else out there that served then and please send me an email if you want to jog our memories.
